Are pendant lights okay in a small kitchen with no table and no island?
Q. Are pendant lights okay in a small kitchen with no table and no island? I am remodeling my kitchen and not sure on the lighting. It is a fairly small kitchen with no island or table. I am thinking of doing recessed can lights but also would like something decorative in the center of the room. I like the pendant lights but don't know if they will okay not hanging over a counter, island or table.

A. Someone mentioned that they have seen pendants over a kitchen sink...I have seen this too. Another use of pendant lights (especially mini pendant lights) is to group them together and they can be used in a foyer, dining room, maybe the middle of your kitchen. It is a cheaper, modern alternative to a chandelier. The website below has a page about mini pendant lights and information about different ways to use pendants on the Applications & Features tab.

How to shorten a necklace where both ends of cord are permanently attached to the pendant.?
Q. I have a necklace that is made of thick cord. Both ends are attached to the pendant and are not removable. The necklace is too long for me and the pendant hangs almost at my stomach level. I was wondering if there is any way to tie the cord via knots and such so that it can become shorter so the pendant can sit at collar bone level? Thanks!

A. I have a corded necklace with an adjustment in the back. All you have to do, is fold the cord and slip a bead onto it so that a loop comes through on one side of the bead. Tie a knot large enough so that the bead doesn't slip off. Put the pendant on around your neck and then just slide the bead (which is at the back of your neck) along the cord towards the pendant until it sits at the length you want. The loop will enlarge as the bead is slipped further down, but could be nice hanging down your back with a charm or another bead to weight it down.
